For the second time this month, a national magazine has named Stevenson High School and Deerfield High School as two of the best high schools in America. Newsweek announced its rankings this week . In addition, the magazine places Stevenson as the 17th-best high school in the Midwest. and Deerfield as the 19th best high School in the Midwest 

Newsweek examined data from more than 2,300 schools to produce its list of the top 1,000 schools. The magazine gave three areas 75% of the weight in its calculations: four-year, on-time graduation rate; percentage of 2011 graduates accepted to college; and Advanced Placement tests (or International Baccalaureate, or AICE) taken per student. Average ACT or SAT score, and average AP/IB/AICE exam score each accounted for 10 percent of a school’s final rating, with the final 5 percent coming from AP/IB/AICE courses offered per student.

Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire was ranked as the 5th best High School in Illinois by U. S News and World Report.   The High School was ranked as 162 nd in the nation. 

The rankings were drawn from a pool of 22,000 public high schools in 49 states as well as the District of Columbia.   The rankings were based on test scores,  student assessments and college level coursework.

According to the report,  Stevenson is above the Illinois average, with 71 percent of students taking advanced placement tests and 61 percent passing them
